Optimism and the Bottom Line
Speakers: Janet and Jonathan Kramer

Current psychological research indicates that optimists are more productive, healthier, happier and respond to change more resourcefully. The ability to adapt to workplace change and to notice opportunities in an evolving environment allows optimists to be effective and empowered.

Optimism can be learned. We all have conscious and unconscious mental strategies we implement in order to explain events in our lives. An individual's "Explanatory Style" may vary from context to context, but it will also determine whether or not someone is basically an optimist or a pessimist. In this "mind's on" training, participants discover their own primary "Explanatory Style" and strategies and techniques to shift that approach where appropriate.

Optimistic managers motivate their staff more effectively and help create a supportive, energized and efficient work environment. Optimistic employees are less likely to lose time due to illness and are generally more productive. All of this impacts the bottom line. Optimists look for opportunities, not limitations.
